| BELLY DANCING |
| Coming up in March - two extended Bellydance classes! 90 mins long, these classes cover two contrasting Bellydance styles: March 10th 10-11:30am - Walk like an Egyptian!! Come and learn the famous Egyptian Walk! This earthy, hip-based travelling step is fun and energetic. For those who already know it, there's also the Double Egyptian, so come along to learn that too! Wear a long flowing skirt if you have one, a few scarves to tie around your hips and plenty of attitude! Beginners welcome too!March 31st 10-11:30am - Fabulous Fluidity! Come and learn the more fluid movements of Bellydance, such as undulations, camels and vertical figure 8's. These movements strengthen both the upper and lower abdominals (tummy muscles), the obliques (waist muscles), as well as the upper and lower back. Beginners very welcome as most of these movements are new to The Studio! £15.00 each workshop.
Why Bellydance? Because it's:Beautiful to watch and to join in with. Energetic! You will burn calories and build muscular strength.Lots of fun! We have a fantastically fun time learning new moves. Lovely to dance in a group of fabulous women.Your body, and Bellydance can help you to learn to love it. Dance! Everyone has a dancer inside them just waiting to leap out.A truly feminine form of dance that enhances the strength of the woman within. Not about dancing for or with men! It's about women dancing together for themselves and each other.Completely individual! Everyone moves differently and Bellydance allows you to dance for yourself in a style that works for you. Exciting to hear the rhythms and melodies from all over the world and know how to move to it.The following quote is taken from the Fat Chance Belly Dance website (www.fcbd.com) and for me describes Bellydance perfectly: "...there was a time in history, a long time ago, when the bounce and sway of a woman's hips was considered so beautiful that they set it to music and made a dance out of it..."The Benefits of Bellydance The benefits of bellydance are plentiful. Dancing is a great way to get a regular cardio-vascular workout and it helps to increase both flexibility and strength in the joints and muscles, particularly the core muscles but also the legs and arms. Bellydance is suitable for all ages and all body types, and you can work at a level that feels right for you. It can also improve your sense of wellbeing and self-esteem and give you a greater appreciation for your own body. As all those who attend classes at The Studio well know, regular and enjoyable exercise also gives you a generally positive outlook on life. Bellydance at The Studio The Saturday classes at The Studio are terrific fun - just ask any of the ladies who attend regularly. We laugh and we dance. I challenge anyone to shimmie without wanting to smile, even if it's only on the inside! There are some moves that are easier than others, but there are always different levels with work at. Some people wear skirts, some wear leggings, others wear baggy tracksuits bottoms and a t-shirt. We all wear gorgeous coin belts or scarves around the hips (provided if you don't have one) and together with a wide range of music from all over the world, you will just want to move your hips to the rhythms and the melodies and I can show you how. The Story of BellydanceThe art of Bellydance is one that dates back to ancient times. Its roots can be traced back to many countries including India, Egypt, Turkey, North Africa and Morocco. The dance encapsulates the beauty, strength and earthiness of women and is a celebration of love, life and femininity. The dance evolved as performers travelled along the spice and silk routes through India, Central Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Spain, learning from and adding to the dances of these cultures along the way. The name 'Bellydance' is said to come from 'danse du ventre', the French colonial name for sensuous women's dances of North Africa and the Middle East, an area of the world designated at the time by Europe and the New World as 'the Orient'. The beauty of Middle Eastern dance is as clearly visible in a woman of 80 dressed in a kaftan, as it is in a young girl in a glittery two-piece. The one thing they have in common is that they dance with their heart and soul.
